We report a case of hypokalaemic quadriparesis in 31-year old woman in whom the discovery of distal renal tubular acidosis led to the diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome. Hypokalaemic paralysis as initial manifestation of primary Sjögren's syndrome is rare, but when it occurs it may precede symptoms of xerostomia and xerophthalmia. The diagnosis of primary Sjögren's syndrome should be consi...

Herein we report, for the first time, a case of unilateral adrenal hyperplasia accompanied by hypokalaemic periodic paralysis type I resulting from a novel dominant mutation in CACNA1S. We present the clinical features and prognosis after adrenalectomy in this case....
متن کاملNormal insulin release during sustained hyperglycaemia in hypokalaemic periodic paralysis: role of the potassium channel opener pinacidil in impaired muscle strength.
1. Hypokalaemic periodic paralysis is characterized by attacks of muscle weakness. Glucose, insulin and an abnormal regulation of ATP-sensitive potassium channels may be involved in these attacks. We studied the effect of hyperglycaemia and of the potassium channel opener pinacidil on insulin release and muscle strength in patients with hypokalaemic periodic paralysis. 2. Insulin release was as...
